Irene Stuart Apon (McAvoy) was born in Glasgow, Scotland; raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with her husband, five grown children and six grand children. Irene has always been interested in art, drawing and painting with acrylics. In 2002 she joined Pro's Art School, Studio & Gallery where she has been painting with oils. Her trip to study the masters in New York, USA has really opened her eyes and mind to the looser and bolder brush strokes as seen in the works of John Singer Seargent and Sorolla. It is this style that she is striving for. Her works reflect her heart for the people of Ethiopia where she lived for two years; her love of family and children; her passion for colour in the world around her and in all an expression of a deep spiritual life that connects everything.
