First Violin

The painting is a portrait of my niece, Erin, who plays first violin for the Edmonton Youth Orchestra. I was inspired by her emotion and sensitivity to the classical piece she was playing at the time I photographed her, as well as the play of light coming from the window.

l enjoy painting portraits of children placed in natural lighting with a favourite object. I have travelled around the world and lived in Rome, London, Houston Texas, and New Orleans. While working in New Orleans I studied life drawing at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. I find working from life very rewarding. The painting won the Patron's Choice Award at the Art Society Of Strathcona County fall Show. I have a B.Ed. and also received the Versa Services Scholarship for Achievement in Fine Art at GMMC.
