NANCY SORENSEN BIOGRAPHY & ACHIEVEMENTS: Nancy Sorensen was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1958. She graduated from the U of A with a B.Ed in 1980 and taught in the school system for 10 years. Nancy lives and paints in Edmonton Alberta and the Windermere Valley of British Columbia. Having a life long interest in art & painting, Nancy joined the Pro’s Art Gallery in Edmonton in 2002. She has studied with internationally recognized artists Brian Atyeo, Robert Johnson, Sherrie McGraw and Greg Kreutz. Traveling to New York, Europe and Asia has also enhanced Nancy’s paintings. Now she specializes in painting “Favorite Places” for her clients. It may be the lake, the mountains or a special holiday destination. Nancy enjoys bringing to life a favorite place in an original oil or acrylic of your choice. Using personal photographs or natures inspiration, Nancy begins each painting with a thin layer of oil or acrylic. Using large bristle brushes, palette knives, cloth and even her hands, several more layers are applied to build depth and richness to the painting to achieve the desired result. The 2011 Favorite Places show features “The Bugaboos”. Hiking through the Bugaboo valley, north of Radium Hot Springs in August of 2010, inspired Nancy to paint the breath taking views she experienced while hiking with friends. She hopes the paintings will inspire you to experience them for yourself!
