Biography & Achievements: Myra Emms was born in Regina and raised in Edmonton.  She is self-taught in drawing and loved to do pencil sketches as a child. It wasn't until much later she took formal training classes as an adult in 1993.  She spent some time in Winnipeg, where she achieved a bachelor or arts degree with a major in Sociology, but had always wanted to return to University to complete a fine arts degree.  Moving east, she accumulated courses from the Ottawa School of Art. Myra took the many opportunities in different cities to take courses in glass blowing, stained glass, woodworking, pottery, drawing, design, and folk painting, before starting courses in oil painting.  Myra is currently painting at Pros Art with Gene Prokop and absolutely hooked.  The pieces she is currently painting are in the old masters style.  “Painting is amazing.  When I paint, time stands still and my stressful world becomes quiet and calm.  A good painting is like a good book, you get lost in it, it takes you on a journey where real time becomes blurred and you, the art, and your life experiences weave a story that is unique to both the artist and the viewer.”
